Uttar Pradesh Nikay Chunav Results 2023 Highlights News Updates: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the Uttar Pradesh urban local body polls winning the Mayoral seats of all 17 municipal corporations besides 90 posts of municipality chairman and over 600 wards. Flanked by Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak at a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Adityanath said the BJP has won all 17 municipal corporations for the first time. “In all 17 municipal corporations, voters have reposed faith in BJP,” he said. The chief minister said in the elections conducted in 199 out of the 200 municipal councils, BJP won double the seats won by it in 2017, when it got 60.
Counting of votes to decide the fate of candidates for 14,864 posts across 760 Urbal Local Bodies (ULBs) in UP started at 8 AM today. The civic body polls in the state was being seen as a test of popularity for the ruling Adityanath-led BJP government and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the BJP’s victory in the Uttar Pradesh local body polls conveys people’s support for the state’s “unprecedented” development under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership. Taking to Twitter, Modi also congratulated Uttar Pradesh BJP workers and candidates for the “stupendous win”.
The UP municipal elections, held in two phases on May 4 and 11, has a total of 4.32 crore voters to elect 1,420 corporators to Municipal Corporations and 5,327 members to Nagar Panchayats and 7,177 members to Nagar Palikar Parishads. While the voter turnout was recorded at 52 per cent in phase 1, the second phase of voting saw the participation of over 50 per cent.
