BJP national president JP Nadda says “Whenever BJP contests any election, be it a state election or a national election, PM Narendra Modi has always taken the leadership and accepted the challenge. He has always led the campaign from the front…”
Tribhuvaneshwar Saran Singh Deo, the current Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and titular Maharaja of Surguja, is facing an unexpected challenge in his re-election bid from the Ambikapur constituency. Deo, who is known as ‘TS Baba’ in the state, has held the Ambikapur seat since 2008. He is a popular leader and is considered to be a strong contender for the Chief Minister’s post. However, he is facing a tough fight from BJP candidate Rajesh Agrawal.
According to the latest election trends, Agrawal is leading by a narrow margin. This is a surprise development, as Deo was expected to win the seat comfortably.
The reasons for Deo’s surprise trailing are still unclear. However, it is possible that voters were unhappy with the performance of the Congress government in the state. The Congress has been in power in Chhattisgarh since 2008 and is facing anti-incumbency. It is also possible that voters are concerned about the Mahadev scam, a corruption scandal that has implicated several Congress leaders.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Sunday attributed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) lead in the Assembly election trends to the people’s faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s works and guarantees. “The people of the state have shown faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s works and guarantees. The PM, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda gave sufficient time (for electioneering) in Chhattisgarh,” Singh was quoted as saying by PTI.
“The people have shown faith in Modi’s guarantees and not Baghel’s promises, which is evident in the trends,” he added.
