Sikkim Legislative Assembly Election Result 2024 Highlights: The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) returned to power with a landslide win on Sunday. The party bagged 31 out of 32 seats in the Sikkim Assembly, the latest data by the Election Commission of India said. Counting of votes for 32 assembly seats in Sikkim began at 6 am on Sunday, amid tight security arrangements. Chief Minister and Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) candidate Prem Singh Tamang won over his nearest SDF rival Som Nath Poudyal from the Rhenock assembly constituency.

In Sikkim, the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is in a fierce competition with the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). Many may not know this but in November 2023, footballer Bhaichung Bhutia’s Hamro Sikkim Party had merged with the SDF.
As per the India Today-My Axis exit poll, the ruling party SKM is likely to remain in power in Sikkim with around 24-30 out of the total assembly seats, while the BJP is likely to win around 2 seats. Other parties, including SDF, may win 0-6 seats in the Sikkim assembly election 2024.
The first trends from Sikkim show SKM and SDF have both gained one seat each.

Among the 146 contestants in the fray, prominent candidates include Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, his wife Krishna Kumari Rai, former Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling, and former Indian footballer Bhaichung Bhutia.
Counting is currently ongoing at one location in each of the six districts of the state. Postal ballots will be counted first, followed by the counting of votes in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Approximately 80 per cent of the 4.64 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the first phase on April 19 across 32 assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat.
Counting of votes is taking place across six districts. Results will be known for nine seats in Gangtok district, seven in Namchi, five in Pakyong, four each in Soreng and Gyalshing and three in Mangan.
