Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has launched a sharp critique of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his silence following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, India, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists, including one Nepali citizen. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Kaneria accused the Pakistani leadership of sheltering terrorists and questioned the absence of an official condemnation from Sharif.

“If Pakistan truly has no role in the Pahalgam terror attack, why hasn’t Prime Minister @CMShehbaz condemned it yet? Why are your forces suddenly on high alert? Because deep down, you know the truth – you’re sheltering and nurturing terrorists. Shame on you,” Kaneria wrote.

The deadly assault occurred on Tuesday in Baisaran, near Pahalgam, and is considered one of the deadliest civilian attacks in recent years. The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow outfit of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the attack. Indian central agencies believe the group operates as a proxy for LeT founder Hafiz Saeed, with backing from Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI.

TRF said the attack was in response to what it called the “demographic change” in the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation from Bihar, responded with a strong warning: “India will identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth. India’s resolve will not falter. Terrorism will not go unpunished.”

Kaneria, who has previously alleged religious discrimination during his cricketing career in Pakistan, reiterated his stance that minorities in the country are often denied equal respect and opportunities.
