Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai after experiencing acidity, an official statement confimed on Tuesday.
An RBI spokesperson stated that the Governor was hospitalised as a precautionary measure but is now in good health. “He is now doing fine and will be discharged in the next 2-3 hours,” the spokesperson said, adding that there is no cause for concern.
“He is now doing fine and there is no cause of concern. He will be discharged shortly,” a medical bulletin issued by Dr R K Venkatasalam, Director Medical Services, Apollo Hospitals, said, as PTI reported.
Das, the former Secretary of the Department of Revenue and Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance, took office as the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on December 12, 2018, for a term of three years.
With over 38 years of experience, Das has held key positions in both the central and state governments across finance, taxation, industries, and infrastructure.
A 1980-batch IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, he was reappointed as RBI Governor for a second term of three years on October 29, 2021.
