A hoax threat call was received by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) customer care in Mumbai, police informed on Sunday (November 17).

According to news agency ANI, the Mumbai police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

On Thursday, an IndiGo flight traveling from Nagpur to Kolkata made an emergency landing in Raipur following a bomb threat, which was later determined to be a hoax.

Authorities are facing a rise in bomb hoaxes, with over 450 reported in October alone, leading to flight delays and raising concerns over potential threats to national security.

The central government has expressed deep concern, urging social media platforms to take action against the spread of such false information, warning that failure to do so could lead to the loss of the exemptions they currently enjoy in India.

The Ministry of Information Technology issued an advisory, stating that bomb hoaxes not only disrupt citizens’ lives but also pose a threat to the nation’s economic security.

In one such case last month, a school dropout from Chhattisgarh was found to have orchestrated a bomb hoax in an attempt to frame his friend.

Earlier this week, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport received a bomb threat from an anonymous caller who claimed a passenger was carrying explosives. The threat was reported to the CISF control room at Terminal 1 (domestic) around 3 pm, police said.
