Congress has formed a screening committee for the selection of candidates for Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh assembly elections. Mallikarjun Kharge has entrusted the responsibility of the screening committee to the central leaders and has also included local leaders as well.

Rajasthan has 5.25 crore voters, including 2.73 crore male, 2.51 crore female and 604 transgenders. Of these, 18,462 are older than 100 years, 11.8 lakh above 80 and 21.9 lakh are first-time voters, said Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said in Jaipur.

He added in the 2023 elections, 1,600 polling stations will be managed by women, 200 by persons with disabilities and 1,600 by newly-recruited youths. The poll process at 50 per cent of the 51,756 polling stations will be webcasted.

‘Vote from home’ facility will be available to elderly voters and people with 40 per cent or more disabilities for the first time in Rajasthan.

Candidates contesting contesting elections will have to disclose their criminal records through newspaper advertisements and political parties should also give reasons for choosing such candidates.

Rajasthan Assembly election 2023: Congress battling anti-incumbency

Rajasthan politics has seen a revolving door paradigm of Congress-BJP regimes since 1998. This is because of the fleeting nature of party loyalty in the state, where no party has been able to forge a stable, dominant caste/ community coalition.

Since 1998, the Congress and the BJP have been coming into power in the state every alternate year and no party has been able to retain it for a second term.

Rajasthan Assembly election 2023: Date, schedule

The dates of voting and counting for the Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023 was announced by the Election Commission of India on October 9. Voting in the state will be held in a single phase on November 25. As the ECI has announced the dates of the elections, the Model Code of Conduct has came into force with immediate effect.

In 2018, Rajasthan assembly polls were held in a single phase and were conducted on December 7, 2018. The counting of votes was done on December 11, 2018. The Elections Commission of India had announced the election schedule in early October in 2018.

Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023 total seats

There are 200 Assembly seats in Rajasthan. In the 2018 elections, Congress had bagged 99 seats, just two seats short of attaining the majority mark of 101 seats, but it managed to go past the halfway mark with support from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) finished a close second with 73 seats in its kitty.

In the 2013 polls, the BJP under Vasundhara Raje’s leadership had won over 160 seats against Congress’ 21.

Rajasthan Assembly election 2023 CM candidates

It remains unclear who will be the CM candidates for the major political parties in the fray in Rajasthan. However, for the Congress, the name of current Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is speculated. The BJP is yet to announce the name of its chief ministerial candidate although Vasundhara Raje is believed to be the frontrunner for the post. If there is no consensus reached, the party may choose to enter elections without announcing a CM face.

The Congress has released six lists and so far 178 names of candidates are out. The Rajasthan BJP has so far announced candidates for 198 out of 200 seats in the state and released five lists.

Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023 opinion polls

According to the IANS-Polstrat Opinion Poll 2023, the BJP is projected to clinch 89-97 seats in the upcoming elections while the Congress might win 97-105 seats and is predicted to form government in the state for the second consecutive term.

As per the survey, the Congress is enjoying a positive vote swing of 2 per cent and is projected to get 41 per cent of the vote share, while the BJP will get 40 per cent votes, the new poll by IANS predicted.

On the contrary, according to the ABP News-CVoter opinion poll, the BJP seems poised for a comfortable majority in the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly elections. According to the survey, spanning from June 26 to July 25, encompassing the views of 14,085 adults across the state, the BJP is expected to secure 109 to 119 seats, garnering a vote share of 45.8 per cent. On the other hand, the incumbent Congress government is projected to win 78 to 88 seats, with a vote share of 41 per cent. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is predicted to get 0-2 seats, with a projected vote share of 0.7 per cent, while ‘Others’ may win 1-5 seats, with a vote share of 12.5 per cent.
