Monsoon Session 2023 Highlights: Amid ruckus in the Rajya Sabha over the Manipur issue today, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar suspended AAP MP Sanjay Singh for the entire duration of the Monsoon session for “repeatedly violating the directives of the Chair”. Sanjay Singh was seen in the Well of the House before being suspended.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament has been facing continuous disruptions over Manipur violence since it began. Opposition parties are resorting to sloganeering over the Manipur violence and are demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue.
The Monsoon session began on July 20 amid the pandemonium over Manipur violence, with the Opposition demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements on the same “inside the House and not outside”.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day after Opposition MPs protested against the suspension of AAP MP Sanjay Singh.
“I again request (AAP MP) Sanjay Singh to leave the House to let proceedings of the House continue,” said Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh as he was present in the House even after he was suspended for the remaining part of the current Monsoon session.
Before the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day, Home Minister Amit Shah spoke in the House and said, “I am ready for discussion on Manipur issue in the House. I request the Opposition to let a discussion take place on this issue. It is important that the country gets to know the truth on this sensitive matter.”
The Lower House has been adjourned till Tuesday amid massive sloganeering.

The Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned till noon on Monday following heated exchanges between Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Trinamool Congress's Derek O'Brien over the issue of party affiliations of those submitting notices on the Manipur issue.
The chairman said, “Mr Derek O'Brien, please take a seat, you are challenging the Chair.”

The INDIA Opposition alliance wants Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a comprehensive statement on Manipur in Parliament, after which a discussion would take place to express a collective sense of pain and desire for reconciliation, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said on Monday.
The government has agreed to hold a short-duration discussion on the Manipur issue with the Home Minister replying to it, but the Opposition is adamant on its demand for the prime minister's statement first.

Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan has given a Suspension of Business Notice in Rajya Sabha Under rule 267 and demand discussion on the persistent failure of both the Union and Manipur Government in resolving the issues and facilitating the peace process and grave matter of atrocities against women resulting from the ongoing violence in Manipur.
The session will continue till August 11 and will have 17 sittings. The government hopes to pass 31 Bills during the session. Among these are the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill to replace the ordinance on services in Delhi, the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, the Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill, and the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill.
