Nagpur South West Election Result 2024 Highlights: Devendra Fadnavis defeats Congress’ Prafulla Gudadhe by over 39,000 votes

The 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections was held in a single phase for all 288 seats. The voters in the Nagpur South West Assembly constituency voted on November 20, 2024, with the counting of votes scheduled for November 23, 2024.

A total of 12 candidates were in the fray for the Nagpur South West Assembly seat in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election: Adv Mehmood Khan (Independent), Adv Pankaj Manikrao Shambharkar (Bhim Sena), Devendra Fadnavis (Bharatiya Janata Party), Nitin Vishwas Gaikwad (Independent), Opul Ramdas Tamgadge (Peoples Party of India (Democratic)), Prafulla Vinodrao Gudadhe (Indian National Congress), Sachin Ramkrushnarao Waghade (Independent), Surendra Shravan Dongre (Bahujan Samaj Party), Usha Marotrao Dhok (Akhil Bhartiya Parivar Party), Vinay Bhange (Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi), Vinayak Bhaurav Avachat (Vikas India Party), Vinod Tarachand Meshram (Independent).

While the assembly seat falls under the Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency, it is notable that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Nitin Jairam Gadkari of the BJP won the Nagpur MP seat. He triumphed over Vikas Thakare of the Indian National Congress (INC) with an impressive margin of 137,603 votes.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Devendra Gangadharrao Fadnavis of the BJP won this seat, defeating Dr. Ashish Deshmukh of the INC by a margin of 49,228 votes, which accounted for 25.62% of the total votes cast. The BJP secured a strong vote share of 56.86% in the constituency.

In the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Devendra Fadnavis again won the seat, defeating Prafulla Vinod Gudadhe (Patil) of the INC by a margin of 58,942 votes, or 30.6% of the total votes cast. The BJP’s vote share in 2014 was 59.14%.

In the 2009 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Fadnavis claimed victory once more, defeating Vikas Pandurang Thakre of the INC by a margin of 27,775 votes, which represented 15.86% of the total votes cast. The BJP’s vote share in 2009 was 50.96%.

The vote counting for all 288 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, including the 12 constituencies in Nagpur district, will begin at 8 am.

In the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Devendra Fadnavis emerged victorious with a total of 113,918 votes. His nearest rival, Praful Gudhade Patil from the Congress, secured 54,976 votes. Meanwhile, Dr. Rajendra Shyamrao Padole of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) garnered 16,540 votes.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Devendra Gangadharrao Fadnavis of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the Nagpur South West seat. He secured a decisive victory by defeating Dr. Ashish Deshmukh of the Indian National Congress (INC) with a significant margin of 49,344 votes.
