Pahalgam terror attack highlights: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) teams have intensified their investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack, camping at the site since April 23. Led by senior officers, including an IG, DIG, and SP, the NIA teams are meticulously interviewing eyewitnesses who witnessed the deadly attack at Baisaran Valley. These accounts are being scrutinised in great detail to reconstruct the events leading up to one of Kashmir’s deadliest terror attacks.

The NIA is also focusing on the entry and exit points of the area, searching for clues about the attackers’ modus operandi. Forensic experts are assisting in thoroughly examining the site for vital evidence, informed the agency.

Days after Pahalgam terror attack, a 45-year-old social activist was shot by suspected terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Sunday. The attack took place late Saturday night when the militants opened fire on Ghulam Rasool Magray inside his home in Kandi Khas.

Magray was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment. Officials said the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Security forces have launched a search operation to track down the assailants.

What has happened so far: The government has vowed that the terrorists and conspirators responsible for the attack will face severe punishment. Opposition parties have expressed full support for any action the government takes against the perpetrators.

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) convened on April 23 and was briefed in detail on the attack, which left 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen dead. Several others were injured. The CCS condemned the incident in the strongest terms, expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families.

Officials informed the CCS about the cross-border linkages to the attack, highlighting that it came at a time when Jammu and Kashmir was making steady progress, including successfully holding elections and advancing on the path of economic development. In response, the government has announced a series of measures, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, sending a strong message to Pakistan over its continued support for cross-border terrorism. The government has also begun evaluating a range of strategies to harness the waters of the Indus basin rivers across short, medium, and long-term timelines.

Pahalgam terror attack LIVE: Farmers in Pakistan panic as India vows to cut off Indus water supply

Spraying pesticides on his parched vegetables just a street away from the Indus River, Pakistani farmer Homla Thakhur is deeply worried about the future. Under a harsh midday sun, the once-mighty river runs dangerously low, and tensions are rising after India vowed to cut water supplies upstream following a deadly militant attack in Kashmir.

“If they stop water, all of this will turn into the Thar desert,” said Thakhur, 40, as he prepared to refill his spray gun from the river. “We’ll die of hunger.”

Thakhur’s 5-acre farm in Sindh’s Latifabad region relies heavily on the Indus, which sustains 80% of Pakistan’s agriculture. His fears are echoed by many farmers and experts, especially after scant rainfall in recent years. In a major escalation, India has suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, linking its return to Pakistan ending support for cross-border militancy — a charge Islamabad denies.
