BJP candidate from Jammu North constituency, Sham Lal Sharma, said, “This is the biggest festival of democracy. People in J&K have been waiting for Assembly elections for a long time. The long queues outside polling stations are proof that people want change in J&K. I am confident that the people in 24 seats in the Jammu province are going to break the voting records of the last several years…I request the voters to choose the best candidates…”

People queued up at a polling station in Udhampur on Tuesday to vote in the third and final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.

The first phase of voting on September 18 saw a turnout of 61.13% across 24 seats, building on the momentum from this summer’s Lok Sabha elections, which recorded a 58.46% turnout — the highest in 35 years.

A total of 415 candidates, including prominent figures like former deputy chief ministers Tara Chand (Congress) and Muzaffar Hussain Beig, are competing in this phase.

Spread across seven districts, 5,060 polling stations have been established. Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Udhampur, Samba, Kathua, and Jammu will see over 20,000 polling staff facilitating the election.
