India General Election 2024 Analysis Highlights: As Narendra Modi looks set to return as the Prime Minister of India for a third consecutive term after as the NDA bagged 293 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats while the INDIA bloc of Opposition parties settled at a final tally of 232. The BJP, however, finished short of the majority mark, winning 241 seats, making the formation of its government dependent on NDA partners TDP and the JD(U) of Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar, respectively. PM Modi on Tuesday claimed a historic mandate for a government that has served two consecutive full terms, INDIA bloc leaders have rushed to Delhi to possibly discuss efforts to form a government.

As per the available trends with the ECI, the BJP is the single largest party and the NDA has crossed the 272 mark required for a majority. That puts Narendra Modi on track to be appointed as the new Prime Minister of the country. However, with regional parties part of the NDA bloc performing better than the BJP in some states, the Opposition may try and woo them to get their arithmetic right.

The counting of votes is underway and the final results are yet to be declared. As per the current trends, the NDA is leading in 297 seats while the INDIA bloc is ahead in 228 seats.
Benchmark indices like the BSE and Nifty have seen a sharp fall in the aftermath of the election results showing the BJP falling short of a majority on its own. The Sensex is down 4,000 points while the Nifty is down by 1250 points.
The leads based on Election Commission of India data shows the BJP as the single largest party but short of the majority mark of 272 seats. Parties like the TDP and the JD(U) command a sizable chunk of the NDA’s tally of 292 seats. The NDA could fall short of majority if these parties were to withdraw support to the BJP.
