The saffron party won 48 seats and Congress bagged 37 seats and was leading in one seat. Polling was held on October 5 in a single phase and results were declared today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the party’s performance as ‘grand victory’, saying that the politics of development and good governance has won. However, the Congress alleged “conspiracy” and said it cannot accept the Haryana Assembly polls verdict. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that the party will raise the issue with the Election Commission of India.

The 2019 Haryana Assembly election resulted in a hung assembly, with the BJP bagging 40 seats, Congress 31, and JJP securing 10 seats, emerged as the key player. Initially, the BJP entered into an alliance with the JJP, with Manohar Lal Khattar being sworn in as the CM and Dushyant Chautala as his deputy. However, by early 2024, tensions between the BJP and JJP led to the coalition’s collapse. Subsequently, Khattar and his council of ministers resigned, and Nayab Singh Saini was sworn in as the new Chief Minister, supported by 48 MLAs, including six independents and one Haryana Lokhit Party MLA.
