Over 60% voter turnout was recorded in Haryana’s assembly elections which ended at 6 PM. Poll officials said that the election was conducted smoothly although clashes were reported from Nuh which left three injured. Key candidates include Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Congress leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Vinesh Phogat, and INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala. Counting of votes will take place on October 8. Over 1,000 candidates, including 101 women and 464 independents, are contesting. Haryana election exit polls have predicted an “easy” win for the Congress party.
A total of 1,031 candidates are in the fray, including 101 women and 464 Independent nominees. Polling for the 90-member Assembly will be over at 6 PM.
The voter turnout recorded in the 2019 Assembly polls was around 68 per cent.
After casting his vote in the Haryana elections, Congress leader and wrestler Bajrang Punia expressed his hope for the Congress government to take power in the state.
On Saturday, Bajrang Punia, accompanied by his wife, Sangeeta Phogat, visited a polling station in Jhajjar to cast their votes for the 2024 Haryana elections.
“I appeal to the people of Haryana to vote as much as possible. Today there is a lack of employment in Haryana. The government that was in power from 2005–2014, every section of the society developed. In the last 10 years, be it sportspeople, farmers, soldiers, or whoever raised their voice, they were lathi-charged. So keeping this in mind, you should vote as much as possible. The Congress government should be brought to power in Haryana…” Bajrang Punia said.
Haryana AAP President Sushil Gupta said, “Today, Haryana is celebrating the festival of democracy. People are voting for a change, they are waiting for a better health and education system in the state… AAP will come as a thrid option in the state.”

BJP candidate Shakti Rani Sharma has filed a complaint with the Election Commission regarding “slow polling” at multiple polling stations in Kalka.
In her complaint, Sharma pointed out that long queues have formed outside several stations, yet the polling process is proceeding at a sluggish pace. She highlighted specific polling booths—numbers 24, 43, 54, 60, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 84, 90, 117, 131, 132, 196, 207, 210, 216, 217, 218, 221, 222, 223, 224, and 225—where the polling percentage was reported to be only 25-30% by 1 pm.

As of 3 PM, the overall voter turnout is 49.14%, with Yamunanagar reporting the highest turnout at 56.79% and Faridabad the lowest at 41.74%.
Congress candidate and Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat called on people to recognise their power and vote in the Haryana assembly elections on Saturday, declaring it a “day of change.”
Polling for all 90 assembly seats in Haryana commenced on Saturday morning, with strict security measures in place. Phogat is contesting the Julana seat in Jind district on a Congress ticket.
After casting her vote at Balali in Charkhi Dadri district, Phogat said, “People of Haryana have huge expectations from the Congress. Everyone should come and cast their votes.”
“We want to work in all areas in the coming five years. Today is the day of change, today is the day to awaken new hope. I appeal to the people of Haryana to come out of their homes and recognise their power,” Phogat added.
“I want to appeal to the voters of Haryana to come out in large numbers and cast their votes because this is the festival of democracy. I am confident that when the final voting numbers will come in, the voting percentage will be higher than the last assembly election,” said BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari.
“We are getting a lot of love, lotus is blooming in the entire state, lotus is blooming in Ladwa too. We have ended the Congress’ politics of nepotism and discrimination. Hooda sahab used to look only at a particular class, only at a particular region. But in our government, we have worked for Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, taking everyone along… the amount of work we have done in the last 10 years, even 7 generations of Congress will not be able to do that much work,” said Nayab Singh Saini after casting his vote today.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the upcoming elections, highlighting the seven guarantees the Congress party has promised to voters.
“We have very clearly told people about our seven guarantees, what we want to give them. What do what we say. We are ready to serve the people with a big mandate,” Pilot said.
He pointed out that the public has witnessed the Bharatiya Janata Party‘s (BJP) performance over the past decade and is eager for a change. “The feedback I am getting from across the state is very positive, and I am hopeful that we will form the government,” he added.
Sunil Kumar, a groom from Pipli village in Kurukshetra district, made a special trip to cast his vote before heading to his wedding ceremony.
“I want to tell everyone that casting your vote is the most important thing. You should never waste your vote. I’m heading for my wedding now, but first, it was essential to cast my vote, and now I’m on my way,” he said.

BJP MP Naveen Jindal cast his vote in the Haryana Assembly elections today, expressing strong confidence in his party’s success. He believes the people of Haryana will support the BJP. After voting at his polling station, Jindal, who represents Kurukshetra, stated, “The enthusiasm among the voters is palpable. We are thrilled to see such active participation today, and I am confident that the courageous and informed citizens of Haryana will bless the BJP. Haryana will support us, and Nayab Singh Saini will be chief minister once again.”

“I would like to urge everyone to cast their votes peacefully and in large numbers. Voting will happen till 6 pm, I would like to tell people to celebrate this festival of democracy,” said BJP leader Om Prakash Dhankar.
Congress leader Ashok Tanwar emphasised the importance of voting for Haryana’s development, stating that it is crucial for the state’s progress, prosperity, and growth, as well as for strengthening democracy.
“Voting is essential for the progress, prosperity, and growth of the state, as well as for strengthening democracy and making Haryana number one,” Tanwar said. He expressed confidence in the people’s support for the Congress party and its leadership.
“I have full confidence that the people of Haryana will stand with the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi ji, and a significant change will come here,” he added.
Haryana Election Commission Nodal Officer Manish Kumar Lohan said, “… Polling on all booths started on time. So far, 25% voter turnout has been reported, which is an encouraging number… Last time the voter turnout was more than 68% and this time we hope to cross the 75% mark… Weather plays a crucial role in taking the poll percentage up or down… There has been no untoward incident so far…”
According to a report, a total of 133 candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves, with 95 citing serious criminal charges. The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Haryana Election Watch analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 1,028 out of 1,031 candidates contesting in the Haryana 2024 Assembly Elections.

Regarding voter turnout in the underway Haryana Elections Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh remarked, “In the morning, farmers have gone to the field to harvest millet. By evening, when they return home from the field and vote, the voting percentage will increase.”
“I voted for the one who works for the poor, farmers, labourers, traders, and to ensure peace and order in the state…Deepender Hooda has brought her (Vinesh Phogat) into politics for his own political gain,” said former wrestler Mahavir Phogat, Vinesh’s uncle, after casting his vote in Balali.
Former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed confidence on Saturday that his party would perform well in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections and successfully form a government in the state.
“I appeal to people to come out of their houses and cast their votes peacefully. According to the reports, people are voting in good numbers. Congress is going to form its government here,” he said, ANI reported.
