The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has restored properties to the tune of Rs 14,132 crore to the public sector banks (PSBs) in the Vijay Mallaya case, data released by the finance ministry’s annual report of 2024-25 showed.

In the Nirav Modi case, the ED has restored properties worth Rs 1052.8 crore to public and private sector banks, and in the case of Mehul Choksey the law enforcement agency has restored properties worth Rs 2566 crore to Punjab National Bank and ICICI Bank.

According to the report, ED is not only actively pursuing the economic offenders to unravel the money laundering but at the same time is also making efforts for the restitution of assets to the banks and others who have been defrauded by the offenders. “The ED has successfully restored properties valued at approximately Rs 22,280 Crore to victims or legitimate claimants,” the report said. 

In the Bhushan Power and Steel’s case, ED restored assets worth Rs 4,025 crore to JSW Group. ED had filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court praying for the restitution of the attached properties of the said amount, which was approved by the court in December 2024.
