Polling for the 288-member state assembly was held in a single phase on November 20. Dr. Jyoti Gaikwad of Congress won the Dharavi Assembly constituency with 70,727 votes, securing a lead of 23,459 votes. In contrast, Shiv Sena’s Rajesh Shivdas Khandare received 47,268 votes, losing by the same margin. This election saw a fierce contest between the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the Congress, both of which fielded fresh candidates to tackle the complex socio-economic issues of one of Mumbai’s most densely populated areas.
