Delhi Election Assembly Results 2025 Highlights: Who will be Delhi CM? BJP leaders meet LG after Atishi resigns as CM

BJP‘s Parvesh Verma and Tarvinder Singh Marwah emerged as the biggest giant-slayers in the high-octane Delhi Assembly elections, defeating AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in the New Delhi and Jangpura constituencies respectively.

Verma, a two-time MP from West Delhi, had launched his campaign against Kejriwal even before BJP officially declared his candidature, positioning himself as the chief challenger to the former three-time Delhi chief minister. His victory over Kejriwal not only boosts his stature as one of the BJP’s most prominent Jat leaders in the capital but also strengthens his position as a potential contender for the chief minister’s post.

As per ECI data, the AAP has won 40 seats, while AAP has secured 17 seats.

BJP candidate Kailash Gahlot bagged the Bijwasan seat defeating his nearest rival Surender Bharadwaj by over 11,000 votes. Gahlot secured 64,951 votes, while Bharadwaj got 53,675 votes.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena has won from the Kalkaji seat defeating her nearest rival BJP‘s Ramesh Bidhuri by over 3,500 votes. While Atishi secured 52,154 votes, Bidhuri got 48,633 votes. Congress‘ Alka Lamba lost securing only 4,392 votes.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi accepted the people’s mandate in the assembly elections, calling it a “setback” but vowing to continue the party’s struggle against the BJP.

“First of all, I thank the people of Delhi and our party workers who stood strong. We accept the mandate. The war against BJP’s dictatorship and hooliganism will continue. This is a setback but AAP’s fight for the people of Delhi and the country will go on,” Atishi told reporters.

Expressing gratitude to her supporters, the AAP leader said, “I thank the people who trusted me. I also thank my team, which faced all challenges and took our message to the public. I have won my seat but this is not a time for celebration — this is the time to fight. The battle against BJP’s authoritarianism will continue.”

BJP leader Kapil Mishra won from the Karawal Nagar constituency defeating his nearest rival AAP’s Manoj Tyagi by over 23,000 votes. While Mishra bagged 1,07,367 votes, Tyagi secured 84,012 votes.

On the Delhi poll results, Kailash Gehlot, BJP candidate from Bijwasan assembly seat, said that the result is a “victory of Prime Minister Modi”. “I was sure that this time AAP was going from Delhi,” the former AAP leader said.

The former Delhi transport minister and AAP’s prominent Jat face in Delhi, Kailash Gahlot, joined the AAP, ahead of the Delhi elections. Citing reasons behind the quit, Gehlot had alleged that political ambitions had overtaken party’s commitment to people.

BJP‘s Tarvinder Singh Marwah won from the Jangpura seat defeating his nearest rival AAP leader and former Delhi deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia by a narrow margin of 675 votes. While Marwah secured 38,859 votes, Sisodia got 38,184 votes. Congress‘ Farhad Suri secured 7,350 votes.

AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lost from the New Delhi seat by a margin of over 4,000 votes. BJP leader Parvesh Sahib Singh won with 30,088 votes, while Kejriwal bagged 25,999 votes. Sandeep Dikshit bagged 4,568 votes.

As of ECI data till 3 34 PM, the BJP has won on 29 seats and was leading in nine, while the AAP bagged 13 seats, and was leading in nine seat. Among seats secured by the BJP include Shakur Basti, Model Town, Rajouri Garden, Najafgarh, New Delhi, Jangpura, Greater Kailash, Mustafabad, Karawal Nagar and more.

UP CM Adityanath said that the results of the Delhi elections have put a stop to the politics of lies and loot.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “Hearty congratulations to the dedicated party officials and workers for the historic victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Elections 2025!”

“This victory is a stamp of the faith of the people of Delhi on the successful leadership of Prime Minister Modi and his development policies dedicated to the benefit of all, public welfare and overall upliftment.”

As per ECI, BJP has won 19 seats and is leading on 28 seats.

On Delhi results, RSS leader Indresh Kumar said, “Arrogance has lost, humility, coordination and ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’ has won.”

From the Seelampur constituency, AAP leader Zubair Ahmad won from the seat defeating his nearest rival party by over 42,477 votes. Ahmad secured 79,009 votes, while BJP candidate Anil Kumar Sharma lost with 36,532 votes. Abdul Rehman of the Congress finished third.

BJP leader Mohan Singh Bisht won from the Mustafabad seat by over 15,000 votes defeating his nearest rival Adeel Ahmad Khan of the AAP. While Bisht secured 85,215 votes, Khan got 67,637 votes. AIMIM’s Tahir Hussain got 33,474 votes.

AAP leader Gopal Rai has won from the Babarpur seat defeating his nearest rival Anil Kumar Vashisht by a margin of over 18,994 votes. Rai secured 76,192 votes, while Vashisht secured 57,198 votes. Congress candidate Mohd Ishraq Khan trailed third with 8,797 votes.

In a post on X, Congress‘ General Secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh said, “The 2025 Delhi Vidhan Sabha election results reflect nothing more than a referendum on Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party. After all, at the height of the PM’s popularity in 2015 and 2020, AAP had won decisively in Delhi. This shows that, rather than being vindication of the policies of the PM, this vote is a rejection of Arvind Kejriwal’s politics of deceit, deception, and vastly exaggerated claims of achievement.”

“The Indian National Congress took the lead in highlighting the various scams that have occurred under Arvind Kejriwal and voters have pronounced their judgement on his twelve years of misrule,” he added.

“The Congress was expecting to do better. It has, however, increased its vote share. The campaign of the Congress was vigorous. It may not be in the Assembly but it is definitely a presence in Delhi, a presence that will be expanded electorally with the sustained efforts of lakhs of Congress workers. There will be a Congress Govt once again in Delhi in 203O,” Ramesh said.

A key factor that led to the the undoing of Aam Aadmi Party over the years in Delhi is the lack of a long-term vision. As BJP is set to form government in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a post on X, said, “Jana Shakti is paramount! Development wins, good governance triumphs. I bow to my dear sisters and brothers of Delhi for this resounding and historic mandate to BJP. We are humbled and honoured to receive these blessings.”

“It is our guarantee that we will leave no stone unturned in developing Delhi, improving the overall quality of life for the people and ensuring that Delhi has a prime role to play in building a Viksit Bharat,” he added.

The Prime Minister also added, “I am so proud of each and every BJP Karyakarta, who has worked very hard, leading to this outstanding result. We will work even more vigorously and serve the wonderful people of Delhi.”

Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal conceded defeat and congratulated the BJP for the win in the Delhi elections.

“In the last 10 years, AAP has worked in various fields, including education and health. We have worked towards improving Delhi’s infrastructure…We feel politics is way to help people selflessly and we will continue to do that,” the AAP chief said in a video message posted on X.

BJP candidate Shikha Roy won from the Greatwr Kailash seat defeating nearest rival Saurabh Bharadwaj by over 3,000 votes. While Roy secured 49,594 votes, Bharadwaj got 46,406 votes. Garvit Singhvi of Congress finished third with 6,711 votes.

As per ECI data at 2.13 PM, BJP has won in 11 seats, while AAP in 10 seats. The Congress has not a single seat till now.

BJP candidate Ravinder Singh Negi has lost from the Patparganj seat defeating AAP’s Avadh Ojha by over 28,000 votes. Negi got 74,060 votes, while Ojha secured 45,988 votes.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a post on X, said, “The people of Delhi have worked to make Delhi ‘AAP-da’ free by destroying the ‘Sheeshmahal’ of lies, deceit and corruption. Delhi has taught such a lesson to those who break promises that it will set an example for those who make false promises to the public across the country. This is the beginning of a new era of development and trust in Delhi.”

BJP leader Parvesh Verma has claimed victory over AAP from the New Delhi seat. As per ECI latest data, from the New Delhi seat, Arvind Kejriwal is trailing behind Verma by over 4,000 votes. In Round 13, Verma has secured 30,024 votes, while Kejriwal got 25,925 votes. Sandeep Dikshit has got 4,541 votes.

AAP candidate Virender Singh Kadian won from the Delhi Cantt seat defeating his nearest rival Bhuvan Tanwar of the BJP by over 2,000 votes. Kadian secured 22,191 votes, while Tanwar bagged 20,162 votes. Congress‘ Pradeep Kumar Upmanyu finished third.

BJP candidate Tilak Ram Gupta won from the Tri Nagar seat defeating AAP candidate Preeti Jitender Tomar by over 15,000 votes. While Gupta bagged 59,073 votes, Tomar secured 43,177 votes. Congress‘ Satender Sharma finished third, as per Election Commission of India data.

BJP candidate Rekha Gupta won from the Shalimar Bagh seat beating AAP Bandana Kumari by over 29,000 votes. While Gupta won 68,200 votes, Kumari secured 38,605 votes. Congress‘ Parveen Jain finished third.

Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, said, “I am not surprised by the results because I think the citizens of Delhi were fed up with AAP.”
