Several parts of Mumbai and Maharashtra received rains on Sunday night, an IMD official said. Mumbai city as well as coastal parts of the state also witnessed strong winds as the intensity of cyclone Biparjoy increased bringing rains to the western parts of the state. Strong winds also affected the air quality and visibility due to dust particles. Some trees fell in parts of Mumbai due to gusty winds, said a civic official.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla on Sunday reviewed the preparedness of different wings of the central government and the Gujarat administration to deal with the impending Cyclone Biparjoy, officials said.

Extremely severe cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' is expected to cross Saurashtra and District Kachchh around noon on June 15, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

“Extremely severe cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' is expected to cross Saurashtra and District Kachchh around noon on June 15. People should stay at safe locations on the day it crosses the Gujarat coast,” said IMD Director General, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra while talking to ANI.

The Gujarat government is deploying NDRF and SDRF teams in coastal areas and will set up shelters in six districts as the extremely severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy is likely to make landfall between Kutch district and Pakistan's Karachi on June 15.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a 'thunderstorm' alert for some districts in coastal Maharashtra in view of the extremely severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy gushing over the Arabian sea.

“The extremely severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy over the east-central Arabian Sea moved north-eastwards with a speed of eight kmph during past six hours and lay centred at 1130 hours over the same region, about 550 km west of Mumbai, 450 km south-southwest of Porbandar, 490 km south-southwest of Devbhumi Dwarka, 570 km south-southwest of Naliya and 750 km south of Karachi (Pakistan),” the IMD said in a bulletin.

The cyclone could see windspeed up to 150 kmph, weather office says. Experts say that since it was first reported on June 6, Cyclone Biparjoy has remained extremley unpredictable.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered officials to put in place emergency measures in advance for Cyclone Biparjoy in the Arabian Sea that is likely to cause flooding and rainstorms in low-lying areas of Karachi and Sindh province. The Prime Minister's orders came in the wake of heavy rains in various areas of the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. (PTI)

CM Bhupendra Patel visited the State Emergency Operation Center to review the preparedness of coastal districts of the state against possible cyclones. A video conference was held with all the officials of the potentially affected area. (ANI)

Cyclone “Biparjoy” intensified into an “extremely severe cyclonic storm” on Sunday morning and is likely to make landfall between Kutch district of Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan on June 15, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. (PTI)

The very severe cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' is very likely to intensify into an extremely severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours but may not hit Gujarat as per the current forecast, an IMD official said on Saturday. The cyclone is likely to pass at a distance of 200-300 km from the Porbandar coast but will bring thunderstorms and strong wind in the western state in the next five days. (PTI)

Pakistan's meteorological agency has said that a ferocious cyclone in the Arabian Sea is unlikely to make landfall in the country, but authorities in the coastal areas in Sindh and Balochistan have been advised to be on alert to ensure public safety. (PTI)

While Biparjoy's path is away from India's coastline, the impact of the cyclonic system can be clearly seen. Very high waves were reported from Gujarat's Valsad. Tithal beach in Valsad, which is popular among locals and tourists, have been closed down as part of preventive measures.

Idukki, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode and Pathanamthitta have issued yellow alert.

Southwest monsoon has advanced yesterday into Kerala and the adjoining Tamil Nadu area. The conditions are favourable for further advance into some more parts of Karnataka, remaining parts of Kerala & some parts of Tamil Nadu during the next 48 hours. Latest reports say that that coastal areas of Kerala, Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra will see high speed wind ranging from 135-145 km per hour along with thundershower.

Apart from India, other nations such as UAE are also bracing for Cyclone Biparjoy. UAE's National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority held a meeting to take a stock of the situation.

States such as Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat are on high alert in the wake of the very severe cyclonic storm.

VSCS BIPARJOY over east-central Arabian Sea at 1130 IST of today, near lat 14.1N and long 66.0E, about 850 km west-southwest of Goa, 900 km southwest of Mumbai, 930 km south-southwest of Porbandar and 1210 km south of Karachi. To intensify further during next 3 days.

The IMD has confirmed the onset of Monsoon in Kerala. While it is too early to talk about the impact of cyclone on Monsoon, experts say that Biparjoy may weaken the onset and it will gather strength only after June 12.

A deep depression over the southeast Arabian Sea rapidly intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ on late Wednesday night. Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ is the first storm brewing in the Arabian Sea this year. As the cyclone intensifies into a severe cyclonic storm, the meteorologists have predicted a “mild” monsoon onset over Kerala and “weak” progress beyond the southern peninsula under its influence.
