The country crossed the worrysome mark of 10,000 new Covid cases on Thursday. As per the Health Ministry, India on an average registered 5,555 Covid-19 daily in the last week as compared to 3,108 the week before.
The national capital reported fresh 1527 Covid-19 cases and two deaths, according to the official data that was released on Thursday. Maharashtra for the second consecutive day recorded over 1,000 new Coronavirus cases, with 1,086 fresh infections and one death being reported in the last 24 hours.
Noida renewed the mask mandate in the city amidst the rising number of cases. An order from the health department stated that people will have to wear masks mandatorily and those who are caught without it won’t be allwoed to enter office, hospitals, schools, malls, cinema halls and any public transport.

On Friday, Rajasthan reported 397 new Covid cases and three more deaths, officials said, reported news agency PTI. The fatalities were reported from Jaipur, Churu, and Hanumangarh.
The new cases include 42 from Jhalawar, 85 from Jaipur, 44 from Jodhpur, 32 from Bikaner, 30 from Sikar, 31 from Udaipur, and 29 from Ajmer. In the state, there are 1,764 active Covid cases.
Recently, no deaths related to COVID19 have been reported in the northeast states of India.
In India, Tripura is the only state which has not recorded any case of COVID till last reports came in.
In the northeast, with only 27 active COVID cases recorded so far, the region is the 'safest zone' in the country.
Puducherry logged 139 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the overall tally in the union territory to 1,76,793, a senior Health department official said on Friday.

Dr. Pramod V Satya, Consultant – Internal Medicine, Manipal Hospital, Millers Road, Bangalore told Financial Express.com that the present COVID-19 strain is very mild though the infectivity is very high.
“The symptoms of influenza, virus, and Covid-19 are very similar so it might cause confusion among the patients to identify. With each new case, a person, a family, or a community is affected. According to the Health Ministry's website, the national capital has recorded the active caseload of 3962 since Thursday. There has been an uptick of 615 cases since April 13th.
Amid increase in number of Covid-19 cases, Mohali's Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain has asked to carry out Covid-19 testing in two shifts. She gave these orders due to the delay in receiving the test reports, as per a report by The Indian Express.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that the hospitalisation rate due to Covid-19 remains low in the national capital despite a recent surge in number of cases. According to the data shared by the city government's Health department, only 231 of the 7,945 beds in the city's dedicated Covid hospitals are occupied.

According to Dr. SK Chhabra, HOD- Pulmonary, Primus Super Speciality Hospital, the current surge in cases has been attributed primarily to the XBB.1.16 sub-lineage of the Omicron variant.

As per a new study published in the journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases, people aged 65 years and above who received Pfizer bivalent mRNA vaccine booster dose, showed 72 per cent lower risk of Covid-related hospitalisation and 68 per cent lower risk of Covid-related death, a PTI report said. The study authors said that the study showed no direct comparison between bivalent and monovalent vaccines.
