“Will the opposition now raise a question on EVM,” asks UP BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary as Samajwadi Party leads in Ghosi seat bypoll.

Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav said, “The Ghosi has not only made the SP candidate win but it also is the victory of the INDIA coalition candidate. And now this will be the outcome of the approaching tomorrow (2024).”

BJP leader Amit Malviya on Friday congratulated the BJP as the party won Tripura's Boxanagar and Dhanpur assembly seats in the bypolls. “End of the road for the Communists, in what was once their bastion,” he wrote.

Trinamool Congress candidate Nirmal Chandra Roy is leading in West Bengal's Dhupguri assembly seat, leaving BJP's Tapasi Roy behind. 

Samajwadi Party (SP) national general secretary Swami Prasad Maurya said, “Many congratulations and best wishes to the voters and people of Ghosi assembly and to the National President of Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, for the historic victory of Samajwadi Party candidate, Sudhakar Singh, in the Ghosi assembly byelection.”

The joint INDIA candidate, Sudhakar Singh, representing SP is maintaining a comfortable lead on the seat. 

“The Dhupguri (bypoll) result shows that people of Bengal are with Mamata Banerjee,” said TMC spokesperson Riju Dutta as TMC won the Dhupguri Assembly seat in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri.

TMC candidate Nirmal Chandra Roy, a history professor, has won the Dhupguri bypoll by more than 4000 votes.

Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh strengthened his lead over BJP rival Dara Singh Chauhan with a margin of 20715 votes after the 15th round of counting in the Ghosi assembly bypoll in Uttar Pradesh.

While Singh has garnered 58771 votes so far, Chauhan has got 38056. There will be 34 rounds of counting.

As of 1.30 pm, the AJSU Party in Jharkhand's Dumri assembly constituency is leading with its candidate Yashoda Devi securing over 42,000 votes.

The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from the seat is trailing with its candidate Bebi Devi securing about 36,000 votes, according to the ECI website.

The 11th out of a total of 24 rounds of counting is underway.

The Dhupguri bypoll in West Bengal, necessitated because of the death of the sitting BJP MLA, is turning out to be a neck-and-neck contest – quite like in the 2021 Assembly elections.

After four rounds of counting, the Trinamool Congress’s Nirmal Chandra Roy enjoyed a thin lead of 360 votes over the BJP’s Tapashi Roy.

In the initial rounds, the BJP held the lead, stretching up to more than a thousand votes at one time.

The Congress party secured a massive victory in Kerala’s Puthuppally assembly constituency after the 13th round of counting of votes came to an end on Friday.

Congress' Chandy Oommen received 78,098 votes in Kerala's Puthuppally constituency, while CPM's Jaick C Thomas managed to get 41,644 votes. BJP's Ligin Lal stood third with 6,447 votes.

The BJP has taken a lead on both assembly seats in Tripura.  After four rounds of counting, BJP's Tafajjal Hossain is leading by 25,478 votes on the Boxanagar seat. CPI(M) candidate Mizan Hossain was in the second spot.

In the Dhanpur seat, BJP's Bindu Debnath was ahead by 14,384 votes after four rounds of counting. CPI(M)'s Kaushik Chanda was trailing.

Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh is leading in Uttar Pradesh's Ghosi assembly seat after the fourth round of counting by securing 14286 votes. Congress supported the SP candidate in the bypoll.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dara Singh Chauhan is at second spot with 10219 votes.

Congress is poised for victory at the bye-election held at the Puthuppally assembly segment in Kerala.

As the counting of votes enters into the tenth round out of 13 rounds in total, Congress candidate Chandy Oommen has gained a lead of around 37,000 votes over his rival CPI(M)’s Jaick C Thomas.

Early trends, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI), showed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading in Tripura's Dhanpur assembly constituency while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is trailing as per the latest trends,

The Congress party gained a clear lead in Uttarakhand's Bageshwar assembly constituency, as per early trends, the website of the Election Commission of India (ECI) showed.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trailing behind in the constituency.

The votes are being counted at the Bageshwar Degree College in Uttarakhand where 14 tables have been set up and 130 polling personnel are on the job, Bageshwar District Magistrate Anuradha Pal told PTI.

Polling to the reserved seat in the Kumaon Division was held on September 5 when 55.44 per cent of the nearly 1.2 lakh voters exercised the franchise, according to the report. The seat had fallen vacant after the death of MLA and cabinet minister Chandan Ram Das in April this year.

Samajwadi Party's Sudhakar Singh was leading with 178 votes in Uttar Pradesh's Ghosi assembly constituency, as per initial trends.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party's Dara Singh Chauhan was trailing.

As per the Election Commission of India (ECI) website, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading against CPI(M) after the first round of voting for bypolls in Tripura's Boxanagar assembly constituency came to an end on Friday.

The first round of counting of votes for bypolls in Kerala's Puthuppally ended with Congress' Chandy Oommen leading with 5,699 votes, out of the 9,187 total votes counted.

CPI(M) Jaick C Thomas received 2,883 votes as per initial trends, whereas the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received 476 votes.

Counting of votes began at 8 am on Friday for the bye-election to the Dhupguri assembly seat in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district. The counting was being held at the Jalpaiguri II campus of the North Bengal University.

There is a three-tier security around the venue of the counting, an election official said.

The counting of votes for the bye-elections to the two assembly seats — Dhanpur and Boxanagar — in Tripura's Sepahijala district began at 8 am, news agency PTI reported. On September 5, an average voter turnout of 86.50 per cent was recorded in the two seats.

The counting is currently being held at the Sonamura Girls' School amid tight security.

However, alleging large-scale rigging during the polling and inaction by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the opposition CPI(M) is boycotting the counting of votes. The two seats are witnessing a one-on-one fight between the ruling BJP and the CPI(M) with the other two opposition parties, Tipra Motha and Congress, not fielding any candidates.

Sepahijala's District Magistrate Vishal Kumar told PTI that all steps have been taken to complete the counting smoothly and transparently. “Tight security arrangements have been made to ensure peace during the counting and after the counting,” he told the news agency. (PTI)
