Bihar Assembly Election 2025 Date Highlights: The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for Bihar election. The voting will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11. Earlier, political parties had requested the ECI to hold elections after Chhath celebrations end on October 29.
The results of the Bihar assembly elections will be declared on November 14.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajesh Kumar along with the Election Commission team had reached Patna last week and had reviewed the preparations. After the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list by the Election Commission, the final publication of the voter list was done on 30 September.
In a press briefing on Sunday, CEC Gyanesh Kumar stated that, following the Supreme Court’s orders and the Aadhaar Act, an Aadhaar card cannot be used as proof of date of birth, residence, or citizenship for voting. He also announced 17 new rules the authorities will follow to ensure free and fair elections.

Previous Voting Schedules in Bihar
If the voting is scheduled in two rounds, as estimated by local reports, it will be the first time voting will be held in such few phases. In the 2020 Assembly elections, voting had taken place in three rounds. In the first round, voting was held on 28 October. After this, voting was done on 3 and 7 November. Whereas in 2015, voting had taken place in 5 phases. Before this, in 2010, voting was held in 6 rounds, in October 2005 in 4 phases. Apart from this, in the February 2005 elections, voting had been conducted in three rounds.
What did CEC Gyanesh Kumar say in Sunday’s press conference?
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar clarified on Sunday that, following Supreme Court orders and the Aadhaar Act, an Aadhaar card cannot be used as proof of date of birth, residence, or citizenship. He also said that providing an Aadhaar number for voter registration is completely optional under both the Aadhaar Act and the Representation of the People Act, 1950. Regarding Bihar elections, Kumar confirmed that voting will take place before November 22, when the term of the state Assembly ends. The state has 243 Assembly constituencies, including two reserved for STs and 38 for SCs. He noted that the Election Commission trained booth-level officers for the first time and completed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, which began on June 24, 2025, within the set deadline. The Election Commission officials were in the state on a two-day review visit to oversee preparations.
