Bihar Assembly Election 2025 Date Live Updates: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is assessing the preparations being done in Bihar for the upcoming assembly elections. A team led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar reached Patna to review poll preparedness. The delegation includes Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

In a post on X, the ECI said, “ECI delegation led by CEC Gyanesh Kumar and ECs Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi arrives in Patna today to review poll preparedness for forthcoming Bihar Assembly Elections.”

The poll panel officials meeting with various political parties comes days after the ECI released the final voter roll post Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar.

Central Observers deployed in Bihar

The ECI is likely to announce the dates for the Bihar assembly elections anytime next week. In the run up to the same, the top poll body recently deployed the officials as central observers in Bihar. According to the press release, 425 officers, including 287 IAS officers, 58 IPS officers, and 80 officers from IRS/IRAS/ICAS and other services, attended the meeting. The briefing meeting was held at IIIDEM, New Delhi, reported PTI.

CEC Gyanesh Kumar addressed the Observers, and called them the beacons of democracy. As the Commission’s eyes and ears, the Central Observers were told to familiarise themselves with all the election laws, rules, and guidelines, provide direct field inputs and ensure their strict and impartial compliance.

These officials have been asked to remain fully accessible to political parties, candidates, and voters for the redressal of their grievances, the press release stated. The Observers were also instructed to visit polling stations and ensure the implementation of the recent initiatives taken by the Commission for the convenience of the voters.

Bihar elections candidates’ list

No political party has come up with the list of candidates in Bihar. One of the big reasons is the seat-sharing talks that is still underway and both – ruling NDA and the opposition’s Mahagathbandhan are working on a formula to keep the allies satisfied as the results of the election may throw a surprise.

Meanwhile, Jan Suraaj Party said it will release first list of candidates on October 9. Its National President, Uday Singh, stated that the party will release its first list of candidates for at least 100 assembly constituencies on October 9.

“We will release our first list on the 9th (October). Jan Suraaj had announced long ago that we would announce our candidates before any other party. From our perspective, we’ve already delayed… On the 9th, we will announce the names of candidates for at least 100 assembly constituencies. And we will do this so that our candidates have as much time as possible to prepare in their constituencies. After all, we are a new party, so no matter how much Jan Suraaj’s name is known, we will have to work harder…,” Singh told ANI.

The ECI is likely to announce the schedule of Bihar elections on Oct 6 or 7.

Instead of taking responsibility for education, the government is stepping back, leading to the privatisation of education and healthcare in Bihar on a large scale. Land acquisition is happening rampantly, farmers are being deprived of their land in the name of roads and other projects. But I believe that the essence of all these issues is that Bihar cannot move forward under the current government,” he said.
