Andhra Pradesh, AP Election Results 2024 Lok sabha Election Highlights: TDP Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu celebrated his landslide win in the Andhra Pradesh elections on Tuesday. The NDA alliance, comprising TDP, BJP, and Janasena, achieved a huge victory in Andhra, securing 21 parliamentary and 164 assembly seats. The breakdown of Lok Sabha seats saw TDP winning 16, BJP three, and Janasena two, significantly weakening the YSRCP which won just 4 seats. Kapus, making up 18% of Andhra Pradesh‘s population, are the largest group in the state. Most Kapus are in the general category, but some are in the Backward Classes. They mainly live in the East and West Godavari districts on the coast. Kapus feel they haven’t had enough say in politics, but now they’re more hopeful because Pawan Kalyan from the JSP is involved. Despite historical differences with the Kammas, many Kapus are supporting the TDP because it’s working with the JSP.
If the exit polls are right and YSRCP wins as few seats as predicted, it means that the NDA, led by the TDP, planned their seat-sharing well. It also means that many people were unhappy with the current government, even though YSRCP tried to fix this by changing lots of candidates.
In December 2023, the Congress party won 64 out of 119 seats in the Telangana assembly, allowing them to form the government. This ended a decade’s rule of K Chandrasekhar Rao’s BRS. With the Congress back in power, the BRS’ long dominance is challenged and the party is determined to make a comeback. On the other hand, the BJP has also tried to solidify its ground here. This sets the stage for a heated three-way election battle in Telangana.
