AP Election Result Live Updates, Andhra Pradesh Election Results 2024 Highlights: N. Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is making a strong comeback in Andhra Pradesh after a remarkable victory in the state Assembly elections. The TDP, in alliance with BJP and Pawan Kalyan’s JanaSena Party, has secured a significant win. Naidu is set to be sworn in as Chief Minister on June 9, with Prime Minister Modi expected to attend the ceremony. YSRCP chief Jagan Reddy has acknowledged the surprising results and stated that his party respects the people’s mandate.
In the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won 135 seats, JanaSena Party (JnP) secured 21 seats, Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) won 11 seats, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) garnered 8 seats, out of a total of 175 seats.
Caste dynamics play a significant role in shaping election strategies. The Reddys and Kammas, two prominent castes, have historically wielded considerable influence over the state’s political landscape, producing 15 out of the 19 Chief Ministers.
Employment opportunities are a major concern for voters, with 67 per cent of respondents in a recent poll prioritising it. The TDP’s slogan, “Job Ravalante Babu Ravali” (Jobs will come only if Babu comes to power), aims to attract youth and first-time voters. The party is urging the youth to compare the industrial growth under the TDP and YSRCP governments.
Former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is entangled in legal issues, particularly related to a skill development scam. The TDP argues that the legal actions against Naidu, who spent 53 days in jail, are politically motivated and aimed at undermining him. In contrast, the government asserts that there is substantial evidence of his misconduct, warranting legal proceedings.
The current YSRCP government’s decision to reconsider the capital’s location has raised concerns. While the YSRCP and TDP clash over this issue, the BJP opposes relocating the capital but supports moving the High Court to Kurnool.
The proposal to relocate the capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam has sparked significant debate. Amaravati, established as the capital by the previous TDP government, saw substantial investment and infrastructure projects.
Nara Lokesh, son of former CM N Chandrababu Naidu, is contesting for an MLA seat from Mangalagiri once more in the 2024 elections following his defeat in 2019. This time, he is up against YSRCP’s Murugudu Lavanya and CPI(M)’s Jonna Shiva Shankar.
Chief Minister Jagan Reddy is seeking re-election from Pulivendula for the third time. He faces TDP’s Mareddy Ravindranath Reddy, known as BTech Ravi, as well as a family feud, with his sister YS Sharmila contesting from the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, under which Pulivendula falls. Sharmila is determined to challenge her brother on all fronts. The Congress has nominated M Dhruva Kumar Reddy from Pulivendula.
Former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has represented the Kuppam Assembly constituency since 1989. However, the seat is now experiencing political upheaval, with its loyalty to Naidu being challenged by the YSRCP government’s welfare schemes. The ruling party has fielded young candidate K Bharath, while the Congress has nominated Avula Govindarajulu.
JSP chief Pawan Kalyan is contesting for the NDA from Pithapuram, where he is up against YSRCP’s current Kakinada Lok Sabha member Vanga Geetha and Congress’ Madepalli Satyananda Rao. In the previous election, YSRCP’s Dorababu Pendem won the Pithapuram seat, defeating TDP’s SVSN Varma by a margin of over 14,000 votes.
Andhra Pradesh minister Dharmana Prasada Rao is vying for a fourth term from the crucial Srikakulam seat. He faces competition from TDP’s Gondu Shankar and Congress‘ Ambati Krishna Rao. In 2019, Dharmana Rao narrowly secured this seat, defeating TDP’s Gunda Lakshmi Devi by a margin of just over 5,000 votes.
In the 2019 elections, the YSR Congress Party, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, decisively defeated N Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to take power. The YSRCP dominated the state, winning 151 out of 175 seats with 49.95 per cent of the vote. The TDP’s seat count plummeted from 102 in 2014 to just 23.
