A couple from Noida shared their experience on Reddit after securing a B2 visa for their 2-year-old toddler at the US Consulate in New Delhi. The appointment was scheduled for 10 AM, but the early morning commute with a toddler stretched a planned 59-minute drive to nearly 90 minutes.

Smooth Entry Despite Early Confusions

“We parked at Malcha Marg’s NDMC parking and took an Uber from there. Got to the consulate just a little after 10 AM. Barely any queue outside and were quickly frisked and let through,” the parents wrote. They noted that although VFS staff initially said only one parent could accompany the child, they were allowed in together after requesting an exception.

Inside, the family faced minor confusion as the staff repeatedly tried to process them as a family application. “The VFS staff kept confusing us as a family application and were wanting to do our biometrics. We kept clarifying that we are there only for our daughter’s appointment,” they said. After the passport check, they were directed to the interview hall and placed first in line for their toddler’s interview.

Quick Interview Process

The consulate officer handling family cases asked for the toddler’s passport and inquired about the parents’ visa status. “You are all set,” she said, returning the child’s passport along with the parents’ as proof. The parents explained their travel plans and purpose, noting that they were work-related, and the officer acknowledged their details before approving the toddler’s visa.

The family highlighted that their experience could help other parents navigate the new rules, particularly for toddlers who are no longer eligible for interview waivers. “Hope this post helps the other parents who are still trying to make sense of the new rules which have been rolled out for toddler’s not being eligible for interview waiver,” they wrote.
