GE Aerospace is investing $14 million, approximately Rs 124 crore, to expand manufacturing capacity at its facility in Pune, bringing the total investment announced to $44 million in a period of about 2 years.
The American company manufactures components at the plant, which are used for GE90, GEnx, GE9X and LEAP engines. “The new investment will strengthen the site’s capabilities through upgraded manufacturing processes and automation, including enhancements that support advanced engine components,” GE Aerospace said in a statement.
GE Aerospace has a massive order book of 113 units of F404-GE-IN20 engines from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.
GE Aerospace’s Pune facility
GE Aerospace has a network of over 300 suppliers at its Pune facility, and across India, it has more than 2,200 suppliers. “Over the past 10 years, the facility has trained more than 5,000 production associates in precision manufacturing processes, playing a vital role in developing local talent,” the company said.
The facility, which initially began as a multi-business manufacturing site, has evolved into a high-tech supplier of aerospace parts for the company’s global commercial engine factories.
Boost for Make in India
Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of GE Aerospace’s Pune facility, stated that the latest investment reflects the company’s commitment to the Make in India initiative and to advancing India’s role in global aerospace manufacturing.
Apart from this facility, GE Aerospace has the John F Welch Technology Centre in Bengaluru that has completed 25 years. More than 1,400 commercial engines of GE and CFM power aircraft of Indian carriers.
