Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the fast-moving consumer goods arm of Reliance Industries, has entered the fast-growing healthy functional beverage market through a majority stake acquisition in a joint venture with Naturedge Beverages Private Limited. With this move, RCPL is looking to strengthen its position as a “total beverage company” and tap into the growing consumer preference for natural, health-oriented drink options.
Shunya joins RCPL’s portfolio
Founded in 2018 by Siddhesh Sharma, a third-generation entrepreneur from the Baidyanath Group, Naturedge Beverages has positioned itself at the intersection of Ayurveda and modern beverage formats. Its flagship product, Shunya, is a zero-calorie, zero-sugar drink infused with herbs like Ashwagandha, Brahmi, Khus, Kokum and Green Tea. The brand has already attracted attention from health-conscious consumers seeking alternatives to carbonated soft drinks.
“Within a very short span of time, Shunya has gained wide popularity among health-conscious consumers as it offers the benefits of herbs in contemporary formats,” said Ketan Mody, Executive Director, RCPL. “It fits perfectly with our vision of providing quality products at affordable prices while promoting India’s legacy.”
Siddhesh Sharma, Director of Naturedge Beverages, added that the partnership validates Shunya’s growing market acceptance. “As we increasingly move towards a challenging lifestyle, super-herbs like Ashwagandha and Brahmi not only act as natural stress-relievers but also boost strength, stamina and focus,” he said.
Expanding the beverage play
RCPL has been scaling up its beverage portfolio since its inception in 2022. It has already revived the Campa Cola brand, launched Campa Energy, and introduced fruit-based drinks under the Raskik brand. The addition of Shunya extends RCPL’s offerings into the health-focused category, a segment that has seen rapid growth driven by urban consumers and younger demographics.
Through its extensive distribution network, RCPL aims to turn Shunya into a pan-India brand and expand the range into other health-oriented products, including energy shots, herb-infused water and functional beverages. The partnership underscores RCPL’s ambition to become a major player across categories in India’s Rs 4.5 trillion beverages market.
