One in every three users on e-commerce is under the age of 25, reveals a report by Meesho. The report further states that Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are leading in e-commerce user growth, while tier 4+ cities emerge as the most frequent repeat shoppers in e-commerce across categories like Women’s fashion, footwear and baby care.
Conducted in the time period between January to June of 2024, it was also found that more than 80% of Indian online shoppers come from tier 2 and cities such as Ambur, Rourkela, Sangli and Zirakpur. It was also found that consumers prefer regional languages as compared to English as the adoption of vernacular languages and voice search increased by 162% and 40% respectively.
Meesho further revealed that the fastest growing categories on the platform, compared according to their year over year (Y-O-Y) sales, are books with 148% YoY growth, office supplies and stationary with 137% YoY growth, home improvement with 112%, furnishings at 92% and pet supplies at 68% growth.
Additionally, Top picks by the consumers were from the categories of fashion, home and kitchen, beauty and personal care, health and fitness and electronic accessories. Top sports among consumers were cricket, football, volleyball, badminton and skating, according to the report. It was also revealed that over 20 lakh yoga mats were sold in six months.
The report also states that many consumers purchase products from their platform based on instagram trends. Home & Kitchen is capturing a growing share of customer budgets, with approximately 10% of spending dedicated to this category, reflecting a 50% year-on-year growth.
Over six lakh face packs, four lakh facial kits, four lakh press on nails, three lakh wax strips and four lakh nail paints were ordered from the platform. The top ranker in cosmetic and self care category came out to be lipsticks with over 40 lakh products sold, the report adds.
