A Kochi-bound SpiceJet flight with more than 100 passengers and crew members made an emergency landing in Chennai on Monday (December 9) after a technical glitch was detected mid-air, airport officials confirmed.
According to airport officials, all passengers and crew were reported safe. The flight, which initially took off from Chennai with 117 passengers, was forced to return to the city after the pilot identified the issue.
Necessary safety protocols were followed, and the aircraft safely landed without incident, officials said. Neither the airline nor Chennai airport officials have given a timeline for the resumption of operations.
This incident follows a string of recent aviation challenges. Notably, Cyclone Fengal recently caused a close call for an IndiGo Airbus A320 at Chennai airport. During its landing attempt, the aircraft’s wheels were just inches from the ground when the pilot aborted the landing and executed a go-around maneuver.
