While Ciaz contributed 5,410 units to Maruti Suzuki’s domestic sales, Amaze and City with combined sales of 13,668 units accounted for over 80% of Honda Cars’ volumes. Hyundai’s Elite i20 sold a whopping 10,264 units during February 2015.
The demand for premium cars indicates that these are repeat customers who are pushing car sales even as market sentiments remain weak at the entry level.
Together 7 of the country’s leading carmakers, who declared their sales numbers on Monday, registered an increase of 7.7% to sell 2,09,576 passenger vehicles during the month compared with 1,94,646 units sold in the corresponding period last year.
While scooters continue to witness good offtake in urban centres, sales of two-wheelers declined by 0.4% on account of weak demand for motorcycles in rural areas.
