The Delhi transport department has announced that any vehicle without a colour-coded fuel stick will be penalized. A notice was released by the authorities that according to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, failing to display the stickers will lead to fines. The stickers were introduced in 2012 as part of the High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) mandate and were made mandatory in 2019.
The notice issued by the department stated, “The Motor Vehicles (High Security Registration Plates) order, 2018 for displaying colour-coded stickers/third registration mark on the windshield of the vehicle. Non-compliance with the above order will also attract the provisions of Section 192(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988,”
What are fuel stickers?
The Delhi transport authorities introduced HSRP way back in 2012, which was later made compulsory for all vehicles in Delhi from April 2019. The mandate clearly stated that all vehicles had to put up the stickers visibly on the windshield. There are three colour-coded stickers —orange for diesel, blue for petrol and CNG and grey for kinds of fuel. One has to keep in mind that without these stickers, car owners will not get Pollution Under Control ( PUC) Certificates.
In 2020, the transport department rolled out an enforcement drive, charging a Rs 5,000 fine on vehicles that lacked mandatory HSRP or fuel-type stickers.
