In its first full month, Maruti Suzuki Baleno has dethroned the Hyundai i20 from the top spot in the premium hatchback category
Maruti Baleno has outnumbered its arch-rival Hyundai i20 in November 2015 to emerge as the top-selling premium hatchback in the country. The Indo-Japanese carmaker had sold a total of 4,229 units of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno within first 5 days of its launch; and in its first full month, it dethroned the i20 from the top spot in the premium hatchback category.
As against Hyundai i20’s 8,200+ retailed units in November 2015, Maruti Suzuki sold slightly over 9,000 units of the Baleno hatchback. This also helped the Baleno enter the list of top 10 selling cars for the month. More than 40,000 orders in just over a month further speaks volume about the kind of response Maruti Suzuki’s premium hatchback has received across the nation. What really has worked in favour of the Maruti Baleno is its competitive pricing and better value-for-money proposition.
Owing to the natural calamities and floods that Chennai is experiencing currently, it is expected that Hyundai’s sales figure might get adversely affected as the company has suspended three production shifts at its facility near Chennai. The company was already facing production issues to satisfy the demand supply equation for its popular models including the i20 and the Creta.
Having said that, the company’s another hatchback, the Grand i10, managed to beat the Swift for the first time ever since its launch. As against Maruti Swift’s over 11,800 retailed units in November 2015, almost 12,900 units of the Hyundai Grand i10 were sold in the month.
