Once again, we’re reminded that technology is just a tool, and blind faith in it can lead to disaster. A man tragically drove his car into a 30-foot drain in Greater Noida after receiving incorrect navigation directions from his phone. According to the police, there is currently no evidence of foul play, as the driver’s navigation system may have steered him in the wrong direction. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the victim later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities had to use a crane to pull the car from the drain.
From lost to a tragic accident
According to a PTI report, the deceased has been identified as Bharat Bharti, a resident of Mandawali, Delhi. He was on his way to attend a wedding with two other people when the tragic incident occurred on March 1 at Sector P4, Greater Noida. Reports suggest that Bharat’s brother, Dilip Bharti, mentioned that Bharat had gotten lost and called him for directions. After entering the destination into the navigation system, Bharat followed the directions. Unfortunately, the navigation system failed to alert him that the road ended, leading the car to fall into the drain.
Media reports reveal that a delivery agent was present at the scene and reported it to the authorities. The agent explained that on online maps the road appears to be straight, but in reality, vehicles take the opposite lane. Due to this many accidents take place daily. Earlier, a motorcyclist fell into the drain.Â
News18 reports that Dilip Bharti, the brother of the deceased, stated the family plans to take legal action against the authorities. He blames the incident on the lack of signboards and proper warnings, claiming that this failure contributed to Bharat’s tragic accident.
