Uttar Pradesh broke three world construction records in the development of the Ganga Expressway. Adani Road and Transport Limited (ARTL), an Adani Group company in partnership with Patel Infrastructure Limited, laid 10 km of crash barriers and 34.24 lane km of bituminous concrete in 24 hours. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took to social media to congratulate the authorities for setting new global records and standards.
Record-winning construction work
The record-breaking work took place from Hardoi to Unnao districts, which is certified by the Golden Book of World Records, Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records. An official statement from the Ganga Expressway project partner stated that in only 24 hours, construction teams laid 34.24 lane kilometres of bituminous concrete, utilising 20,105 metric tonnes of material and covering a surface area of 171,210 square metres. During the same period, they also installed 10 kilometres of metal beam crash barriers along the carriageway.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister announced that the achievement has been officially recognised by the Golden Book of World Records, the Asia Book of Records, and the India Book of Records.
“New heights for Uttar Pradesh! In only 24 hours, 10 km of crash barriers and 34.24 lane km of bituminous concrete were completed, earning two world records,” Adityanath posted. He credited the achievement to the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), calling it “the result of excellent planning, technical proficiency and committed teamwork”.
The chief minister added that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh is “becoming an infrastructure state of global standards”.
What is Ganga Expressway Project?
The 594-kilometre Ganga Expressway will link 12 districts, stretching from Meerut to Prayagraj, with plans to extend it further to Ballia, which would make it the longest expressway in India. The Ganga Expressway, originally slated for inauguration ahead of the Maha Kumbh 2025, is now facing delays and is behind schedule.
Regarding the record-setting achievement, Arvind Patel, Managing Director of Patel Infrastructure Ltd, said, “We are proud to be contributing to nation-building through such monumental achievements. This is not just a record, it’s a reflection of Indian engineering brilliance and our team’s unwavering spirit.”
