Mumbai takes the infamous title of being the most forgetful city when it comes to leaving behind items in the Uber cabs. According to Uber’s 9th edition of its Lost and Found Index, the country’s financial capital has ended Delhi’s two-year streak as the most forgetful city in India.
Commenting on the Index, Shiva Shailendran, Director – Consumer and Growth, Uber India South Asia, said, “We’ve all been there – that facepalm moment when we realised we forgot a cherished belonging in a cab. At Uber, we’ve made it easy to retrieve lost items with just a few steps in our app. We appreciate the trust our riders place in us each time they choose Uber, and we believe it’s the perfect moment to offer a quick refresher on how to recover items left behind.”

As the traditional everlasting feud between Delhi and Mumbai continues, this is one title the national capital will not feel bad missing out on. Uber announced its 2024 Lost & Found Index which revealed that Mumbai has snatched the crown for the most forgetful cab riders in the country. Delhi takes second place, while Pune muscled its way to take the third spot as it leapfrogged two places replacing Bengaluru, which came fourth ahead of Kolkata. The City of Joy made its debut in the top 5 list.

You won’t believe that losing a 25 kg cow ghee packet, a wedding saree, and a gold biscuit to hair wig are some of the most common objects left behind in a cab. Then there are the usual suspects like backpacks, earphones, mobile phones and even passports. Even in phones, the most forgotten brand is Samsung followed by Apple and OnePlus. We all desperately looking forward to the weekend when happy hours start from Friday evening, but then so the most forgetful time of the time and days. That’s correct before you start waltzing toward the weekend, keep in mind that the Bermuda Triangle of memory is Saturday, Sunday and Friday and the timings to be wary of are 7 pm, 8 pm and 6 pm. Whether it’s the weekend rush or festive chaos, forgetfulness strikes when distractions peak. Festive days saw the highest spike in lost items, likely due to distracted celebrations.
