Uber launched the metro ticketing on the Uber app, in partnership with by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The capital is the city to get this facility. Uber has announced that metro ticketing services will expand to three additional Indian cities by the end of 2025. This marks Uber’s first integration with India’s digital public infrastructure and is a significant step toward seamless urban mobility. Users in Delhi can now plan their metro journeys, buy QR-based tickets, and access real-time transit information within the Uber app, with payments supported exclusively through UPI.
This integration follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2024 during Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s visit to India, where Uber committed to collaborating with ONDC to advance the reach and impact of India’s digital public goods.
Speaking at the launch, Praveen Neppalli Naga, Chief Technology Officer, Uber, said “ India has taken an impressive leap in building population scale technology through its Digital Public Infrastructure like ONDC and we are thrilled to integrate with them to bring metro ticketing to the Uber app, bringing us one step closer to our vision of being a one-stop shop for mobility needs. Working with ONDC has pushed us to reimagine how private innovation can plug into public platforms to deliver seamless, smart solutions, and we are just getting started.”
B2B logistics expansion and future Innovations
Building on the momentum of its metro ticketing integration, Uber is set to launch B2B logistics services through the ONDC network. This new solution will allow businesses to access Uber’s extensive delivery network for on-demand logistics without the need to maintain their own fleets. Initially, the service will focus on food deliveries but is designed to scale across sectors such as e-commerce, grocery, pharmacy, and healthcare logistics, creating new earning opportunities for Uber’s 1.4 million driver partners.
The collaboration with ONDC not only enhances Uber’s reach but also lays the foundation for future innovations in urban mobility and logistics. By partnering with ONDC, Uber seeks to streamline the fragmented logistics landscape and enable businesses of every scale to connect with more customers efficiently through an easy-to-use, plug-and-play logistics platform. This strategic move establishes Uber as a holistic mobility solution, well-equipped to address the changing demands of both Indian commuters and enterprises.
