Honda Jazz
Honda Jazz is the only offering by the Japanese carmaker in the premium hatchback segment. The compact car resembles its larger sedan sibling, the Honda City. Measuring 3,955 mm in length, 1,694 mm in width and 1,544 mm in height, the Honda Jazz is one of the longest hatchbacks in its segment. It also has ‘magic seats’ in which the front seats can be tilted to fold horizontally and merge with the rear seat to form a flat bed for one person. The 5-inch touchscreen infotainment unit supports radio, USB, AUX-in, Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio and phone controls as well as navigation in the top end trim. The Honda Jazz comes with both, petrol and diesel engines that are mated to a 5 and 6-speed gearbox, respectively. In a higher trim, consumers can opt for an automatic gearbox.

The Honda Jazz is one of the largest cars in its segment and measures 3,955 mm in length, 1,694 mm in width and 1,544 mm in height. The long wheelbase of 2,530 mm creates additional cabin space.A light kerb weight of 1,007 kg for the petrol variants and 1,130 kg for the diesel is lesser than most cars in its segment. The front wraparound headlamps and the fog lamps offer good visibility at night and the 15-inch alloy wheels along with 175/65 section tyres offer decent grip. The steel rim on lower variants is 14 inch but is equipped with the same tyre size.

Inside the Honda Jazz, one can experience best in segment space, that can accommodate four tall passengers with ease. This is courtesy the wheelbase of 2,530 mm that frees up space inside the cabin. The infotainment unit integrated into the dashboard is a 5-inch touchscreen unit along with navigation and video. Controls for audio and phone are integrated on the steering for added convenience of the driver. A stand out feature is the touch-sensitive climate control panel, which eliminates the need for physical switches.

The Honda Jazz has two engines, a 1,199 cc i VTEC petrol and a 1,498 Earth Dreams diesel unit. Power generated by the petrol is 88.7hp power at 6,000 rpm and 110Nm torque at 4,800 rpm, while the diesel produces 98.6hp at 3,600 rpm and 200Nm at 1,750 rpm. Honda Jazz Transmission
There are three transmission options for the Honda Jazz, a 5-speed manual and a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) for the petrol and a 6 speed for the diesel. Gear shifting on both manual transmissions is smooth and the clutch requires a little force. The CVT also sends power to the front wheels in a streamlined manner. However, the gearbox suffers from the typical rubber-band effect associated with CVTs, wherein the engine spins faster than usual at any speed, especially when accelerating.

The Honda Jazz comes with the company’s famed ACE body structure, impact mitigating headrests, impact absorbing body structure with crumple zones and an immobiliser on all variants. On the upper SV, V and VX variants of the petrol manual, it comes with ABS with EBD and dual front airbags. For the diesel and petrol CVT trims, ABS is standard across the range.
