The rumour mills have been buzzing for a while but it’s now confirmed that six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez and Honda Racing Corporation have mutually decided to terminate the contract. With a year remaining, both parties thought it was best to go their separate ways to achieve their future goals.
Marc Marquez: Curtains come down after 11 years with HRC
The man, the machine, Marc Marquez stormed into the MotoGP arena in 2013 winning the world championship the same year and successfully defending it in 2014. Marquez switched to total domination mode and ruled the roost from 2016 to 2019 becoming the undisputed champion for four running years. The Marquex juggernaut received a rude awakening when he crashed at Jerez in 2020 suffering an arm injury and the recovery route included four surgeries and diplopia or double vision. Only last year, the Spaniard’s fourth surgery helped improve his arm to become more flexible and mobile.
Marc Marquez: What next? Gresini Ducati?
This is the moment everyone has been waiting for Marquez and Ducati’s partnership. Well, not quite the factory team, but Gresini can propel the Spaniard back to his peak. Only last weekend Cal Crutchlow said, “If Marc were to switch to a Ducati, everyone else wouldn’t even need to compete.” So we are sure not all MotoGP riders will be happy to hear this news once it becomes official. This will also be the reunion of the Marquez brothers. Younger brother Alex had switched to Gresini this year from LCR Honda. Till its made official by team Marquez, all roads lead to Gresini Ducati.
