Similar to Marc Marquez and Honda’s long-standing relationship, KTM and Toby Price had the same in the world of off-road racing. However, like how all good things come to an end, KTM has decided not to renew Price’s contract this year, and the 2024 Dakar Rally was the last for the duo as a team.
In his last outing in the Dakar Rally, Toby Price finished in 5th overall, right behind teammate Kevin Benavides, while Honda took the overall victory following Ross Branch on the Hero.
The official statement
Taking to social media, Toby Price announced, “KTM has decided to not renew my contract so Dakar 2024 was my last event with them…I do feel like I’m still in my prime and going out there fighting for wins, especially at Dakar so it’s unfortunate to not have that opportunity to do it in 2025 but I’m really appreciative of the support they gave me in my career.”
“We’ve been able to do some great things together like win two Dakars and get a couple podiums, a World Championship and our success in Australia too.”
KTM and Toby Price have had a 15-year relationship and 10 of them were with the Factory team. Price finished his first Dakar Rally in 2015 in third, while in his next race, he won the Dakar. His next victory was in 2019, winning despite riding with an injured wrist.
The Australian has been focusing on racing four-wheelers, however, a third Dakar victory is something he will be happy about. Will Honda take the step to sign up Price? Time will reveal more details.
