At the event, the company unveiled not one, but two products. The unexpected entry was the Roadster which the company claimed as the fastest production car ever that will cost around USD 200,000. The battery of the Tesla Semi truck has been built into the chassis itself. The truck has been equipped with four motors that are responsible for driving each wheel individually. The cabin of the Tesla Semi has been designed with a different approach as the driver in the truck sits in the centre. The idea behind this unique driving position is to offer a good all round visibility. Also, the cabin is flanked by two touch screens that make the task easy for the driver.

The Class 8 truck was being described as ‘trailer agnostic’ that simply means that it is capable of hauling any kind of freight. For those who do not know, the Class 8 is the heaviest classification on trucks in terms of weight.

Elon Musk, the company’s chief executive drove the truck into an airport hanger in Los Angeles to showcase it in front of the crowd that included potential Tesla car owners and truck buyers. The company’s chief announced that Tesla’s entering into the truck territory is an effort to move the economy away from fossil fuels.

In terms of performance, the figures for the Tesla Semi truck are quite inspiring. This truck can sprint from a standstill to 100kmph in a matter of just five seconds without any cargo. On the other hand, when it is fully loaded as per US regulations, the Semi can hit 0 to 100 kmph in 20 seconds. This is when the truck is loaded with 36,300 kgs of cargo.

The top honcho, at the time of unveiling did not provide any details on pricing of the Tesla Semi. The truck is able to cover 500 miles upon a single full charge when it is loaded at its full capacity. Another interesting highlight of the Tesla Semi is that the battery can be recharged to cover 400 miles in just 30 minutes. As compared to conventional trucks, the Tesla semi has a less prominent nose up front.
