Mercedes-Benz India launched the new E-Class LWB (Long Wheelbase) in India at a price of Rs 56.15 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai. The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is available in two variants, the E200 petrol and the E350 d diesel. As the name suggests, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is longer than the previous generation models as well as its rivals. Although, the new E-Class LWB is powered by the older model's engine options, it has been equipped with a host of new features and technologies, some of which are first in the segment.

Exterior: The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class now has an increased wheelbase of 3,079 mm and an overall extended length of 5,063 mm, making it the longest car in its class. The company has increased the wheelbase by 205 mm, as a result of which, the rear cabin space has been increased and now offer more legroom and headroom for the rear occupants. Largely, the new E-Class is similar to the previous models in term of design and styling and gets LED adaptive headlamps and LED tail lamps, 17-inch light alloy wheels as well as a panoramic sunroof. The new E-Class also looks elegant with its long bonnet, sloping roof lines like a coupé and body-coloured side skirts with chrome inserts.

Interior: Apart from 50 percent more space at the rear, Mercedes-Benz has also offered the luxury sedan with a host of new features at the rear. One of the major highlights at the rear is that the rear seats now can recline by up to 37 degrees, making it more comfortable for the rear passengers during long journeys. The rear seats also get a memory function which can save up to three separate positions for each seat. Another new feature on the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is the steering wheel with touch control pads instead of buttons/switches for the first time in the new E-Class. With the help of the touchpad, the user can swipe horizontally or vertically to use features such as infotainment system, navigation, phone, radio and other functions.

Burmester Surround Sound: The Burmester surround sound system has been developed in partnership with Mercedes-Benz and Burmester. The system is supported by Android Auto and, Apple CarPlay. By connecting the smartphone, the driver can access navigation, traffic information, media, contacts, Facetime and messaging, which is operated by voice command system. All the information is displayed on a 12.3-inch screen. The Burmester surround sound system comes with 13 high-performance loudspeakers, a 9-channel digital signal processor (DSP) amplifier with 590 watts and an amplifier/loudspeaker system. The sound can be optimised for the front and rear passengers separately.

Suspension: Mercedes-Benz has equipped the new E-Class with Air Body Control air suspension for better driving dynamics. The Air Body Control self-levelling suspension uses adaptive damping technology that adjusts the road condition at each wheel with the help of separate valves for compression and rebound of the dampers. This results in softer suspension and reduces rolling while cornering or braking. The suspension can be raised by up to 25 mm for increase ground clearance. Moreover, the suspension can automatically lower at high speeds to reduce aerodynamic drag and improves fuel-efficiency as well as stability.

Engine: The Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is powered by a 2.0 litre four cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that generates 182 hp of power and 300 Nm of torque. The diesel variant gets a 3.0 litre V6 engine that produces 255 hp of and 620 Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to a 9G-tronic automatic gearbox. According to the company, the V6 unit can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.6 seconds and has a top speed of 250km/h.
