Bajaj Dominar 400 is the first of the manufacturer's range of high-performance motorcycles, however when it was launched the KTM Duke 390 was already in the Indian market and now has received an upgrade. With similar engine capacity, the 390 Duke is more powerful than the Dominar 400, but Bajaj's latest offering has price on its side. Following is a comparison of the two based on various aspects.
-
Engine: 390 Duke is powered by the same BS-IV compliant 373.2 cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine that produces 43.5 hp of power and 37 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch and Ride-By-Wire technology. The Dominar 400 comes with a 373.2 cc triple spark four valve DTS-i engine, with fuel injection and liquid cooling, paired to six-speed transmission and slipper clutch. It produces 34.5 hp of power and 35 Nm of torque.

Features: The 2017 KTM 390 Duke comes with a coloured TFT instrument cluster with smartphone compatibility, which is a first in the segment. The motorcycle also features a new split headlamp with 20 LEDs and redesigned split seats. KTM has also increased the fuel tank capacity to 13.5 litres. The Dominar 400 is also the first motorcycle in India to have full LED mosaic head lamps with vertical AHO (Automatic Headlight On). It has a split reverse LCD display on the instrument cluster.

Brakes: KTM 390 Duke has a 2-channel Bosch ABS, 4-piston caliper and 320 mm disc diameter. The ABS can be turned off. Braking in the Dominar 400 is covered by 320mm front and 230mm rear disc, and the bike comes with an optional twin channel ABS system in the higher variant. The bike will come to a stop from 100-0 kmph in 46.19 metres, Bajaj claims.
