Italian sportscar maker, Ferrari knows how to keep its profits in check by perpetually keeping its customers' wallet open to the number of special editions and one-off show models. Ferrari is back with its new 'Icona' series and the two new sportscars take its inspiration from the class 1950's Ferrari's sports cars. Meet the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2.

The Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 draw inspiration from some of the Prancing Horse’s greatest creations. According to Ferrari, the two new open-roofed cars reference the 1950s 166 MM, 750 Monza, and 860 Monza — three cars that helped establish the Ferrari legend in racing. They also feature the roofless body style Ferrari calls “barchetta” (Italian for “little boat”), which is replicated on the new special-edition cars.

Ferrari Monza is a single seater sports car and leaves the driver exposed to many elements. The roofless body and low-cut windshields make the Monza unique and one of its kinds and certainly very different from the most modern Ferraris. The design too is simple and less aerodynamic.

The new Ferrari Icona edition may look old school but gets some the new age technology. The body is built using carbon fibre that has helped the car's weight to go down. It also gets Ferrari's Virtual windshield to make things in cabin comfortable. It has a panel ahead of the dashboard that directs wind away from the driver's face.

The new Ferrari special edition is powered by a 6.5L V12 engine that is also used on the Ferrari 812 Superfast. It has a maximum power output of 789 hp and 718 Nm torque. It can accelerate from 0-100 in less than 3 seconds and has a top speed of 300 kmph.

Clearly, Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 is not meant for sales but is more about showing off. It will be shown to Ferrari loyalists before making its public appearance.

Both the new Ferrari limited edition, classic looking Monza SP1 and SP2 will have a limited sales runs. The company has not officially confirmed the production numbers but it doesn't matter anyway. It is likely that these Ferrari models are already sold out.
