There's a distinct charm to riding to a destination, rather than flying to it or taking a train or even driving. A motorcycle allows you to be a part of scenery and the environment. Preparing your motorcycle for touring is fun as well as time taking and can be expensive too, unless you own a Triumph Tiger or a Ducati Multistrada. But, who says you need an expensive adventure tourer for grand touring? More and more riders in India are embracing long trips on their motorcycles. One such rider and enthusiast is Ashwin Ram, who has decided to help fellow riders prep their bikes and make them more touring friendly. We had a word with Ashwin to find out how to convert a Dominar 400 to look like an adventure tourer.
-
Ashwin runs a company called Lluvia Industries – Grand Touring Accessories. It does exactly what the name suggests. Lluvia designs, manufactures, tests and retails accessories that will come in handy during elongated journeys, such as backrests for the rider and the pillion, jerrycan holders, tourer sproket, pillion footrests, etc.
-
The company currently manufacturers a total of 24 accessories for various motorcycles. It started operations with the Mahindra Mojo and then worked on accessories for KTM Duke. However, it has the most number of accessories on offer for the Dominar 400.
-
Ashwin has another neat concept in his mind – the Domistrada, which essentially will be fitted with all 24 accessories and the end result would make the ride from Kanyakumari to Ladakh cake walk for the bike and rider alike. It is also very easy to fit these add-ons to the bike and riders can choose to do it themselves too.
-
The 25-year-old owner at Lluvia, Ashwin Ram, is an enthusiast himself and has done a grand tour that involved riding from Coimbatore to Ladakh to Kanyakumari and back to Coimbatore, which is a gruelling 8000 km, in 12 days. He also attempted Limca's Fastest K2K Ride record and safely completed in 100+ hours, whilst testing Lluvia accessories along the way. Lluvia designs and tests all its accessories on motorcycles that it owns on extended tours like Coimbatore to Bhutan.
-
If one happens to own a motorcycle other than Dominar or Duke or Mojo, Lluvia will entertain requests for customised accessories too. And considering the price tags on the accessories, it really makes sense to get them fitted as they add comfort and practicality. For example, the rear footrests for the Dominar are priced at Rs 890, an exhaust guard is for Rs 770, rider backrest – Rs 1690, a D-guard – Rs 2990, a windshield – Rs 3900 and many more.
