With the reduction in FAME II subsidies, electric two-wheeler manufacturers are looking at launching more affordable scooters in the market. Good examples are the Ather 450S which saw a smaller battery pack and the removal of the TFT screen and the Ola S1X, which also gets a smaller battery pack.
However, there are more electric scooters on the way, and some from mainstream manufacturers like Honda and Suzuki. Here are the upcoming affordable electric scooters in India.
Ather
Starting with Ather, the Bengaluru-based EV maker has been spied testing a family scooter, which is bigger and offers more room than the current 450 range. As per a tweet by Tarun Mehta, the Co-Founder of Ather Energy, the scooter will be launched in the first half of 2024 and when launched, it will compete with the TVS iQube amongst other upcoming scooters in India.
Simple Dot One
Simple Energy is another startup based in Tamil Nadu and the company is known for its Simple One electric scooter, which claims an IDC range of 212km. The company, having delivered around 50 units of its first scooter, is now gearing up to launch its second product, the Simple Dot One, a more affordable offering. The launch of the Simpale Dot One is expected to take place on December 15.
Honda Activa EV
With mainstream manufacturers like TVS and Hero in the EV space already, Honda is late but expects to recreate the magic that the Activa did, with the launch of an all-electric Activa. Expected to launch in early 2024, the Honda Activa electric will be priced competitively, however, not many details are known about the scooter at the time.
Suzuki Burgman electric
With Honda coming up with an EV, Suzuki is also looking at the segment, with the launch of the Burgman electric scooter. The scooter has been spotted testing in India already and the launch is expected to take place sometime during the first half of 2024. When launched, expect the Suzuki Burgman electric to carry a price of Rs 1 lakh, ex-showroom.
