The EV segment is booming with so many new names in the market, however, some have managed to stay quiet and watch their success — like River EV with the Indie e-scooter. Tagged the ‘SUV of scooters’ the River Indie has been selling quietly and consistently and the company has reported Rs 100 crore in revenue and 1,000 unit sales in a single month. While these numbers look insignificant compared to Bajaj, Ather, TVS, and others, it is still a respectable number for a startup.
River Indie — What makes it unique?
The design. The Indie is a large scooter and its unique twin headlight setup makes it stand out compared to all the other EVs in the market. That said, the colour options add to the design of the scooter, and its utilitarian nature is another key aspect. The scooter also gets massive storage under the seat and a large footboard. Furthermore, the company also offers accessories like side panniers, a top box, and custom rails to make the floorboard a storage space by itself.
The Scooter is suspended by telescopic forks, dual rear shocks, rides on 14-inch wheels, and comes with built-in crash protection. There are disc brakes at both ends, and a digital instrument console. As for power, the River Indie gets a 4kWh battery pack that offers a range of 161km. The Indie accelerates from 0–40kmph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 90kmph while the battery pack can be charged from 0–80% in 5 hours.
While the spec sheet may not look that impressive, the scooter is interesting to ride. Although it is large, the scooter handles like a motorcycle thanks to the large wheels and the clip-on bars offer a good riding position.
All of the above have come together as a good overall package, which has resulted in decent success for the company. Commenting on the latest milestones, Aravind Mani, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of River said, “In just 4 years since inception, we’ve crossed Rs 100 Crores in revenue and 1,000 scooters in monthly sales. We are proud of the strong base that we have built across R&D capability, manufacturing and distribution. It gives us great confidence as we scale our distribution and plan our next products.”
