The Maharashtra cabinet has given the green light to the new electric policy, which offers substantially more subsidies to boost the adoption of green sustainability further. According to CNBC TV18 and Lokmat Times, after approving the new EV policy, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the new policy offers more subsidies for passenger electric vehicles and free toll tax. The government is focused on boosting EV production and adoption and offering a well-connected charging infrastructure.
What to expect from the revised policy?
Speaking to Lokmat, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik stated that the new EV policy is all about increasing the penetration of EVs and building a robust infrastructure to back it up.
The new EV policy is offering subsidies now, including buses and heavy vehicles, apart from the two- and three-wheelers. These vehicles will also be exempt from toll fees. Under the new policy, passenger EVs will get rebates up to 10% of the total cost of the vehicle. The government has also introduced flexible loan schemes up to 100% on EVs.
The government is focused on offering a well-connected, state-of-the-art charging infrastructure that will ease range anxiety among car buyers. Speaking to CNBC TV18, Sarnaik said, “We are looking at making it mandatory for new societies to have EV charging stations — without which occupancy certificates may not be issued.”
Municipal corporations will be instructed to allocate 1% of their annual budgets specifically for the development of EV-related infrastructure. He added, “Our key priority continues to be the expansion of charging networks and boosting production capacity. If additional incentives are required down the line, we remain open to considering them.”
