In order to boost the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in India, the Central Government will install high-capacity 360 kW charging stations, along highways, expressways, and bus stops. This charging infrastructure will immensely help commercial vehicles like electric buses and trucks as well as premium and luxury EVs from Jaguar Land Rover, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, etc.
According to a report by Business Standard, these heavy duty charging stations will reduce recharge time to 15 minutes. To keep electric commercial vehicles competitive and operational, fast charging is essential—it allows fleet managers to maintain schedules without prolonged downtime.
Expansion of EV charging infrastructure
By improving charging speed, this initiative aims to encourage more individuals and businesses to adopt electric vehicles. It forms part of a broader government strategy to expand EV infrastructure across the country, narrowing the gap between urban and rural regions while strengthening public confidence in electric transportation.
This program is part of a wider government effort to expand EV infrastructure nationwide, aiming to build trust in electric mobility and reduce the disparity between urban and rural areas. Although India’s EV charging network is growing rapidly, it often falls short of meeting the rising demand.
Installing 360 kW fast-charging stations along key travel corridors will not only support the country’s push for sustainable transportation but also make long-distance EV travel more practical and accessible. More details on this project are expected to be available in the next few months.
