We’re issuing an early warning, as nightmares can indeed become reality. A valet at a Bengaluru restaurant crashed a Mercedes-Benz EQE, valued at Rs 1.41 crore ex-showroom. While mistakes are inevitable, this incident stands out because the valet was attempting to create video content while driving the electric SUV.
Social media content goes crash, boom, bang
According to India Today, Divya Chhabra, owner of the wrecked EQE, went to attend a family get-together at the Big Barbeque restaurant in Marathahalli. She handed over her brand-new Mercedes-Benz SUV keys to the valet without ever suspecting that a disaster was around the corner. Within an hour, Chhabra got a shock of her life when she saw the front end of the car smashed. To add insult to injury, the restaurant tried the oldest trick in the book by going into a cover-up mode and spinning tales that didn’t make any sense. Chabbra and her family inspected the basement where the car was parked and said the staff had allegedly cleaned up the crash site by clearing out the bricks and debris. The restaurant continued to play down the incident calling it a minor parking incident, but the CCTV showed another quite damning footage. The video revealed that there were three valets who took turns driving the Mercedes-Benz SUV and were shooting video before the incident took place.
Owner speaks up after two months: Why?
Chhabra only recently took to social media and blew the whistle on this incident, the restaurant and the person driving the car, Abdulla Laskar. The obvious question to ask is, why is she talking about the crash now? The answer to that is that she found out that Laskar has a fake driving license, which the restaurant never bothered to check. This information was verified by the Assam Regional Transport Office (RTO) from which Laskar’s license was issued. According to the license, it was issued in 2010, but Laskar was born in 1999, which makes it illegal for him to drive a car as he’s underage.
The insurance investigation backed all these details, and furthermore Chhabra said that the restaurant tried to mislead the investigators, and the owner of the place filed a petition in the High Court requesting the quashing of the FIRs. Chhabra revealed that the repair work of the SUV will cost Rs 20 lakh, and three valets are absconding.
