Every now and then comes a product that is meant to do the basics, but does a step above. Cycles, for example, are simple machines. However, when someone decided to add a battery to it to make life simple, the idea clicked, and many companies now sell electric bicycles in India, like E-Motorad.
The Doodle V3 is a stylish bike, with chunky tyres, a tall handlebar, a wide seat, and relaxed ergonomics. It could pass well as a fashion accessory, however, we’re here to see how well it does as the manufacturer intends this product to be.
The E-Motorad Doodle V3: What is it?

The Doodle V3 is an electric bike with a 12.75 Ah battery pack that has a range of over 60km. The e-bike has a 6-step pedal assist mode, while the battery pack itself is concealed in its aluminium alloy frame. A Shimano Tourney TZ500 7-speed gearbox takes care of power, while an LCD instrument panel shows all the essentials.
With the basics out of the way, the design of the Doodle V3 is eye-catching, owing to its boxy frame and chunky tyres. The Doodle V3, however, has a trick up its sleeve, and it can be folded, easy enough to carry it in a boot or store it inside the house.
The E-Motorad Doodle V3: How good is it as an e-bike

As far as the Doodle V3 being an e-bike, it does it well, with the added advantage of looking good. The relaxed ergonomics of the bike are good for city commutes, while the front suspension does a good job. The brakes are sharp and the seat is comfy, however, those switching from scooters to the Doodle V3 will need some getting used to.
The little LED display is easy to read and the gear shifter is on the right, while the left switchgear operates the pedal assist with a simple +/- button and a power on switch arms the electric drive mode. Long press the ‘+’ button for the headlight and hold it again to turn it off.

Half of the right grip is the throttle, which can be used with two fingers, and when the brakes are applied, it cuts power to the drive train. Stop and go is also easy, as one can use good old pedal power or the throttle directly. The acceleration does need a little getting used to, as the power can be a surprise, but a few rides will sort that out.
The E-Motorad Doodle V3: What could have been better?
Like all good things, there are a few drawbacks, and the biggest is the folding and unfolding mechanism. While the method is easy, one can easily get pinched when trying to unfold the Doodle V3. The two-key system is also a bit fiddly and removing the battery takes a few tries. That said, the Doodle V3 can be charged without removing the battery but takes up a lot of space.

The other big sore thumb is the exposed wiring that ruins the overall design of the e-bike. That could have surely been better, however, what outweighs everything is the weight. Almost 30 kilograms is not easy to lift or move around.
Should you buy one?

If you want to stand out and don’t mind a few ‘hey, what cycle is that?’, you should definitely consider the Doodle V3. Priced at Rs 52,999, it’s not a big pinch on the wallet, but do be ready for a few pinches with the unfolding mechanism. Taking all this into consideration, the Doodle fits right into everyday urban lifestyle.
